As the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge begins today, JU Solar Team proudly presents the three drivers who will take on the 3,000 km journey across the Australian continent – with two additional drivers in reserve.
The drivers have been preparing intensively since the construction of the new solar car began at Christmas, and they have also gained valuable experience by training with the team’s previous car. The final selection was made after internal tests, where criteria such as driving skills, height, and weight were taken into account.
All three moved to Jönköping for their studies and later decided to join JU Solar Team – a decision that has now brought them all the way to the starting line in Darwin.
Nils Persson, born in 2002 in Karlskrona, is the first driver on the starting line this morning. He shares his thoughts ahead of the race:“It will be incredibly exciting to finally begin the competition down to Adelaide. There has been so much preparation in recent weeks, but now we are really eager to race! To be the one starting the competition feels especially prestigious, and I have the full support of the entire team behind me.”
Kevin Lundström, born in 1999 in Skellefteå, will take over as the second driver during the first day.He comments:“It’s going to be so much fun – I’m excited, the team is excited.”
Finally, Ellie Brismar, born in 2001 in Gothenburg, will drive the last stint of the day.She explains:“I’m super excited to drive! It will be very interesting to see how the team and the car handle all the challenges that await us.”
Together, the three drivers – supported by the entire JU Solar Team – will navigate the solar car across Australia, covering an incredible 3,000 kilometers from Darwin to Adelaide.
